The Harvey M. Vaile Mansion based in Independence, Missouri was build in 1881. Back in it's days it was considered by one reporter to be the "the most princely house and the most comfortable home in the entire west." The mansion consists of thirty-one rooms with fourteen-feet-high ceilings decorated by many artists from abroad. Since 2002 the mansion serves as a public museum, and is a great example of Second Empire architecture.
