The Country Club Plaza (often called The Plaza) is a privately owned "open-air shopping center", which opened in 1922. Jesse Clyde Nichols considers this to be America's first suburban shopping center designed to accommodate the automobile. Today, The Plaza hosts over 180 shops and restaurants and is visited by over.
Prior to the shopping center, the Country Club Plaza is known for Spain's two landmarks, the Giralda Tower and the Seville Light. The Plaza is also known for its annual lighting ceremony, at which 75 miles of Christmas Lighting welcome to holiday season, an ongoing tradition since 1925.
