Cars in this antique era (1880-1920) are usually referred to as horseless carriages. Antique cars are characterized by open bodies, oval brass fittings on headlights, and other automotombile components. The Antique cars era was a british term, and consisted of the Veteran era cars (pre-1904), Edwardian era cars, and the Brass Era cars (1905-1914). The Antique and Edwardian era were only relevant in the British Empire. However, overseas the term “brass car era” preferably used by Americans and consisted of all of the brass styled cars within the antique car era. Car manufacturers such as Thomases, Simplexes, Locomobiles and Mercers were known to be expensive, luxurious and powerful.
